Therapist San Francisco | Therapy for Unconventional People

Many of my clients are people who live lives that are in someway unconventional. I’ve occasionally had people wonder if they are “unconventional enough” to work with me. Please be assured that “unconventional” is self-defined, and people with diverse lives and circumstances have seen themselves reflected in this word.

Some of my clients who consider themselves unconventional have been people very devoted to a spiritual path in a way that strongly shapes their life choices and circumstances. Some clients have considered themselves unconventional because they have decided not to have children and are in a minority in their family or social groups or because they are pursuing an unusual career. Some of my clients who consider themselves unconventional are neurodivergent. Some clients have families with very conservative or traditional values that they find too constraining—these people can also think of themselves as unconventional because they’re living a life outside of what has been expected of them.

Some of my “unconventional” clients are people whose lives intersect with other area of my practice. These clients are artists, creative people or people who want to be creative, people non-monogamous relationships, or people who are part of the lgbtq community.

“Unconventional” can describe a very broad range of people, but it tends to be accompanied by certain tensions in a person’s life—occasionally—or frequently—pressures to conform, for example. These clients find acceptance and support in my practice.
