Therapist San Francisco | LGBT and Queer Therapy in the Castro
For Lesbian | Gay | Bisexual | Transgender | Queer People
I provide therapy to individuals and couples in the LGBTQ + community. I work with gay men and lesbians. I also work with bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit, and non-binary people. People sometimes contact me to discuss concerns related to sexual orientation or gender identity. For example, some people come to see me when they are contemplating or are in the process of “coming out”. People also sometimes seek my support when they are starting or considering hormone treatment for gender-affirming purposes.
You can read more about therapy for transgender, gender non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals. I also provide lesbian couple therapy, gay couples counseling and queer relationship therapy.
Most frequently, however, LGBTQ clients work with me because they simply want a culturally-competent therapist with whom they can do important therapeutic work. These clients want to improve their emotional well-being and reach important personal goals. While working with me, clients improve feelings of self-worth, break out of troubling relationship patterns, decrease self-limiting and self-defeating behaviors, address childhood pains that are interfering in the present, get support for current life challenges, improve communication with family members, recover from depression and anxiety, work through grief, and find their footing following disorienting events. I also provide therapy for couples and people addressing an OCD or phobia.
In therapy with me, clients receive thoughtful, professional care from a licensed clinician. My clients can be assured that I take my professional role with them seriously. Simultaneously, my clients can know that they do not need to explain what it is like to live as a gay or queer person in the world. In my opinion, LGBTQ clients deserve quality, professional care guided by the best of what clinical psychology has to offer. They also deserve to receive care free from bias and from the distraction of potential misunderstandings. LGBTQ clients often tell me that they feel more comfortable working with a queer therapist or a gay therapist.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss starting therapy. I’ll be glad to hear from you.
